Learn to read Hebrew in no time, whether you are an absolute beginner or whether you have forgotten everything you learned in Hebrew School. In addition to teaching Hebrew consonants and vowels, the teacher will also help you work on your reading fluency and enable you to understand the meaning of some key Hebrew words and phrases that are found in popular Friday night prayers and songs such as Shalom Aleichem, Lecha Dodi, and Kiddush. There is a nominal fee for the course textbook.

MONDAY MORNINGS:

* Bringing Tehillim to Life: Unlocking the Meaning & Power of Psalms

This weekly class, which is part of the Bernice Oswald z"l Women’s League Institute, will meet at Temple Har Zion at 1500 Hagys Ford Road in Penn Valley.  In this class, we will focus on the religious ideas, literary aspects, and spiritual powers of selected psalms. It will include a discussion of how these psalms are appropriate for certain liturgical, ritual, and personal contexts. Some of the psalms that we will study are part of the daily or Shabbat prayer services. Others may be familiar from their liturgical use at funerals. Other Psalms may be recited by individuals or communities in times of crisis, illness, or transition. Together, we will discover the meaning and power of some of the Bible’s most beautiful "prayer poems".
